From API to API Product: Strategy Work with APIOps Cycles

Many APIs are technically well built but treated as products too late. Target audience, usage context, and value proposition often remain unclear before design and implementation begin. In this 50-minute workshop, we use APIOps Cycles to work on the API Product Strategy Station. Participants apply the Customer Journey Canvas and the API Value Proposition Canvas to their own or an example API scenario. By the end, they will take away two concrete artefacts that help them better understand API consumers and define the value proposition of their API more precisely

Using spec-kit and OpenSpec, it demonstrates how a shared constitution (guiding principles) combined with concrete specifications enables consistent, enforceable API definitions. This approach brings Product Owners and developers together around a common source of truth, fostering collaboration and shared ownership of API design. It supports safe and controlled API evolution while enabling scalable API governance—even in environments increasingly shaped by AI-assisted development.
